The Prayer of Susanna: When God Becomes Our Defender

(Daniel 13)

There are seasons when being faithful does not protect us from being misunderstood. When doing the right thing does not keep us from being accused. When silence feels forced, not chosen, and defending ourselves feels impossible.

Susanna lived this moment.

Falsely accused. Exposed by abuse of authority. Surrounded by lies.

And yet, she did not collapse into despair.

She prayed.

Susanna’s Prayer

“O Eternal God,

You who know what is hidden,

You who see all things before they come to be,

You know that these accusations are false.

I am about to die, though I have done nothing wrong.”

(Daniel 13:42–43)

Susanna does not explain herself. She does not argue her innocence. She speaks directly to the One who already knows the truth.

She calls God Eternal because her situation feels urgent, but His justice is timeless. She entrusts her life into hands that can’t be corrupted.

When This Prayer Is Ours

This prayer becomes ours when:

• We are misunderstood
• Lies are spoken about us
• Authority is abused
• Defending ourselves feels impossible

In those moments, God does not look away.

Scripture tells us simply and powerfully: “The Lord heard her cry.” (Daniel 13:44)

God hears.

God sees.

God defends.

Even when our voices are silenced, His is not.

God Is Still Our Defender

Susanna’s story reminds us that God does not need noise to act. He does not require our perfection or our explanations. He requires our trust.

Justice may not come immediately, but it comes.

Truth may be buried, but it is never erased.

The same God who defended Susanna stands beside us today.
